    - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S136842351
    - Media: 1 Audio
    - Comments: "Male bird initially located visually. Small warbler that had clean white belly, flanks and vent and bright yellow throat and breast. There was a mixed orange and blue-gray partial breast band. Upperoarts were darkish (poor light/viewing angles made exact determination of the color difficult) with bold white double wing bar, with the upper wing bar being more prominent.

About 30 minutes later we heard the bird singlng a couple of hundred metres upstream. We heard the song at least 10-12 times. It was an accelerating high-pitched trill ending a 'zeep' sound. I am familiar with song. We should be able to add poor quality recordings."

    DATE: May 9, 2023 @ 11:08am, 1 year(s) ago
    All,
Refugio was much quieter this morning withonly about 25-30% of the volume of migrants going through. Highlight was a male Northern Parula in mid-canyon at the 2.5 mile post. It was singing at times.

  17. Pacific golden plover LINK
    DATE: Nov 14, 2022 @ 2:24pm, 1 year(s) ago
It's still on the beach near the Mission Creek mouth, this morning just east of the wooden bridges along with about 50 black-bellied plovers. A dog walker flushed it and it looked like it landed east of the blue life guard tower. Eleven greater white-fronted geese were in the pond by the bridges.
I struck out on the northern parula in the 200 block of West Ortega -- the massive tipus there were planted in 1957.
A tan-striped white-crowned sparrow is in the yard.

It has been here awhile, seen by many observers. Beautiful!"

  23. Possible Northern Parula at Tech Park LINK
    DATE: Nov 12, 2022 @ 4:48pm, 1 year(s) ago
Today at about 1:15 at Tech Park @ Hollister I spotted what I believe
was a Northern Parula. The bird was by the wall to the north of the
dumpster in the northeast corner of the westernmost parking lot.
Identifying features I was able to note were a yellow-green back patch
surrounded by gray, gray head, white around eye, and yellow throat and
breast. Since the ID is uncertain I didnt include on my checklist:

  25. Scorpion So Far LINK
    DATE: Oct 26, 2022 @ 5:39pm, 2 year(s) ago
Its been quite the last few weeks out at Scorpion Ranch. I think weve had pretty good birder coverage over the past 6 weeks, with birders present about a third to half of those days (this is off the top of my head; I havent checked ebird data). I went 6 times and spent the night twice, so I had 8 days of birdingand I didnt get bored! Only 1 of the 6 times was poor for migrants, so I spent my time going for hikes, which is very pleasant out there. I have had some of the most fulfilling birding of my life at Scorpion this fall. Is it always this good Only time will tell, but I suspect this has been a particularly good year. The list of birds seen, though, gives an idea of the potential of this location as a vagrant trap.
Below is a list of the scarce or rare birds reported from Scorpion this fall, not necessarily those verified. Again, its all off the top of my head, so I might have missed a bird or two and my numbers might be off.
    And fall isnt over yet!
Short-eared Owl Yellow-bellied Flycatcher (1st for island, 2nd for county if accepted by CRBC) Least Flycatcher Tropical Kingbird Plumbeous Vireo Yellow-green Vireo (1st or 2nd for island) Philadelphia Vireo (1st for island) Wood Thrush (1st for island, 2nd for county if accepted by CRBC) Gray Catbird Sage Thrasher American Pipit, japonicus Ovenbird (at least 3) Black-and-white Warbler (at least 2 or 3) Tennessee Warbler (oodles! Who knows how many, but with 6 on one day, surely 10+) Virginias Warbler (2) American Redstart (2 or 3) Blackburnian Warbler (2) Northern Parula (2) Magnolia Warbler Black-throated Blue Warbler Bay-breasted Warbler Palm Warbler Green-tailed Towhee Clay-colored Sparrow (at least 4) Brewers Sparrow White-throated Sparrow Dickcissel (2) Rose-breasted Grosbeak (at least 4) Painted Bunting Indigo Bunting (2) Bobolink (2) Orchard Oriole (2)

Hi, If I recallcorrectly, there is no separate Ventura County email list, so I hope that I'm forwarding this information to the right place. Bill contacted me because he wanted to make sure that people know about the Red-eyed Vireo that he found yesterday. He has been trying to put the information out, himself, without success. Just as I was rolling out of the parking lot after grabbing lunch, I heard unfamiliar chips coming from the trees, so I reparked and got out to quickly check it out. I saw several warblers flitting around, and not one but TWO of them were Tennessee. The chips were distinctly not as sharp as ocwa, and they match very well with online recordings of tewa. Both birds had distinct supercilium, short tails, and white undertail coverts. Didnt have any equipment but since both were very obliging and came within 10 feet with pishing, I was able to get decent iPhone shots. I also got a recording of the chips. First 4 photos of 1 bird, last photo of the other bird"

One bird includes the continuing female-plumaged bird at the ranch house fig trees where it was seen multiple times during the day in basically the same several trees. The second was a new bird, found between the two campgrounds. Both very active and constantly tail fanning. Gray overall with yellow patches at base of tail, base of secondaries, and orange-yellow along the sides of the breast at the bend of the wing. Although very similar in plumage, photo review indicated the first bird showed more orange coloration at the bend of the wing, as well as more pronounced eye-arcs."
