My feeling is that good numbers of waxwings lingering until at least mid-May is not an uncommon occurrence. Just taking a quick look at my own eBird data, I have had numbers like those being reported this year, just about every year since I became a consistent eBird contributor, which goes back to 2011. I'm sure if others look at their own data, they'll find something similar.
