- Comments: "Feeding on the ground under a toyon on the slope above the road, where reported previously. Male, with red most intense on crown, especially the fore crown. Some faint pinkish wash on the mantle, but this was visible only from some angles, while at times the mantle looked a fairly rich brown. There was also a pinkish wash on the breast, but this didn't extend to the sides or belly, which were whitish. The flanks had only vague darker smudgy streaks, and not the crisp, narrow streaking I had expected. The bird had distinct brown auriculars with a pale area washed pinkish wrapping around the top and rear of the auriculars. The bird had a noticeable pale eyeing that was broken in front of and behind the eye. The wings were brown, and the primaries and secondaries looked essentially unmarked, although the tertials had bold whitish edges. The rump was slightly pinkish and paler than the brown tail. The bill was mostly fairly pale. The legs were dull pinkish."

Lisa heard a 'chink' call. Very shy. Viewed from about 40 feet away."
