As John Callender has already reported on eBird, the two of us had a good afternoon of hawk-watching at the Bella Vista Drive location. From approx. 3:45 to 5 p.m., we had 6 Broad-winged Hawks flying by, one almost directly overhead. In addition, there was some movement of accipters, most classified as "Cooper's/Sharp-shinned," but at least one of each that could be more clearly identified. In addition, we saw several Red-tailed Hawks and Turkey Vultures, most of whom I suspect were residents, and a Northern Harrier. I think John also had a Red-shouldered Hawk just as I arrived. We saw no movement of Lewis's Woodpeckers today, but did see a few flocks of Band-tailed Pigeons in the area. Florence Sanchez |
