- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S116872784
- Comments: "Continuing on NE mud bank about here 34.4428, -119.84859. Plump short-legged sandpiper. Mid sized bicolored bill, orange at base, dark at tip. Characteristic scalloping down breast sharply delineated at white belly. Dark brown crown. Orangish legs. About the size of a CA towhee, that dropped in for comparison. Scope view, too distant for a photo."
Pectoral Sandpiper (Calidris melanotos) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Aug 13, 2022 08:38 by David Compton
- Lake Los Carneros Park, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=34.44322 ,-119.84975&ll=34.44322,-119.84975
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S116851064
- Comments: "Continuing adult, with distinct, heavily marked area on breast, colder than color of juvenile in this area; scalloped upper parts without any evident reddish color (but note that views were distant); plump overall shape. Much smaller than nearby Greater Yellowlegs, but larger than any peep. Some pale was evident on mandible when the light hit the bill. My assessment as an adult was partly based on views of the same bird a week ago, but also on the appearance of the breast area during this viewing. Because of the apparent small size, I assume this is a female."
