Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted) (Colaptes auratus auratus/luteus) (1)
- Reported Jan 31, 2022 12:59 by Mark Holmgren
- Cachuma Lake, DeVaul Ck 34.5605 -119.91702, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=34.5617783 ,-119.9146693&ll=34.5617783,-119.9146693
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S101813206
- Comments: "On 22 January 2022, I got only poor looks at the undertail, which appeared yellow. All other aspects of this bird suggest this is a full Yellow-shafted Flicker: gray crown, brown face, black mustache, and red nape. I call it a hybrid only because I did not get a complete look at the underwings and undertail and because the default assumption is that most birds reaching the county are hybrids.
On 31 Jan 2022, it was seen again. This bird showed a yellow undertail and the other marks seen on 22 Jan (see https://ebird.org/checklist/S101244103 ). So I abandon the hybrid determination and I'd call this a YsFl. Photos on 31 Jan did not turn out."
Great-tailed Grackle (Great-tailed) (Quiscalus mexicanus [mexicanus Group]) (3)
- Reported Jan 28, 2022 11:00 by Susan Hilinski

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S101819115
- Comments: "Three brown females with yellow eyes close to entrance of wharf, with characteristic grackle calls and whistles. Larger than Brewer BB's. I didn't realize they were rare for this location; if I had known, I could have easily snapped a photo with my cell camera."

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S101811239

- Comments: "Continuing bird on east side of NCOS. Spotted on green construction fence near a eucalyptus and the gazebo. It was among some yellow-rumpled warblers, but this one was distinctively brown upperparts, white and yellow underparts, prominent white steak above eye, and yellow rump. It was bobbing its tail most of the time I saw it. Poor photos, but enough for identification confirmation."
