Hi all, It was warm this morning at Quail Lake, with light east winds. They're pumping out water from the lake with fairly heavy flow. I estimated 700-1000+ Tricolored Blackbirds nesting in the reeds along the lake shore, particularly on the north shore, and foraging in the tall grasses and annuals all around the lake. Several females were actively building nests in the reeds. This is a little smaller than, though comparable to, the numbers that nested here last year Otherwise it was a fairly quiet morning at the lake. As the water levels have receded in the past several weeks, it seems that all the waterfowl have left for the season. I found almost no waterfowl, almost no passerine or shorebird migrants, no swallows apart from the small colony of nesting Cliff Swallows, and no particularly interesting raptors.
