I'll send another report later in the afternoon after more reports come in.
One important thing that I forgot to mention in the earlier emails is the situation in the San Gabriel Mountains, which will make it challenging to find montane species. The Angeles Crest Highway is closed between Red Box Gap and Big Pines, so many of the usual places that we check such as Chilao, Buckorn, and Grassy Hollow are not accessible by car. But other places are: Mt. Wilson Observatory, Table Mountain, Big Pines, Jackson Lake, Crystal Lake, and South Fork Campground. A number of trails are also accessible. For example, from Big Pines to Blue Ridge Campground (although there might be some snow), the road from Fenner Work Camp to Vincent Gap; parts of the Pacific Crest Trail; Little Santa Anita Canyon; Glendora Ridge Road and Sunset Peak Road (closed to cars but probably open to hikers), and trails above Crystal Lake. Barrett-Stoddard Road is open and probably provides our best chance for American Dipper.
Thank you,
Lance
