    This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for 6 January 2023.
    
    A LONG-TAILED DUCK was at the Ballona Creek mouth from January 3-6.
    
    A SANDHILL CRANE was at the Rio Hondo Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through January 6.
    From the entrance at Mines Ave. and Paramount Blvd. the bird was in the second basin on the left as you walk in.
    It has been seen in other parts of the spreading grounds.
    
    The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through January 2.
    It has been on the salt pan and near the UCLA boat ramp.
    
    At least five MOUNTAIN PLOVERS continued at the A&G Sod Farm in the Antelope Valley through January 2.
    The sod farm is at 40 th Street East and Avenue N.
    
    A RED KNOT was along lower Ballona Creek and on the nearby beach from December 30-January 4.
    
    A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was along the Los Angeles River between Atlantic and Slauson on January 2.
    
    NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were at Legg Lake in South El Monte and at Heritage Park in Cerritos on January 1, along the San Gabriel River between Slauson and
    Telegraph on January 2 and along the San Gabriel River at Wilderness Park in Downey (four birds) on January 6.
    
    Two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at Ballona Lagoon through January 5.
    
    Twenty-four SWAINSONS HAWKS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on January 6.
    
    A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued near Kiwanis Park at Grand Ave. in Monrovia on December 30.
    
    NORTHERN YELLOW-SHAFTED FLICKERS were at Castaic Lagoon on January 1, in Pasadena on January 2 and at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach on January
    2.
    
    A DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER continued at Peck Park in San Pedro through January 6.
    It has been in the canyon by the Senior Center.
    
    An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve on January 6.
    
    A BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHER had returned to the South Coast Botanic Garden in Rolling Hills Estates as of January 1.
    It was reported through January 2 near the intersection of Tram Road and Arizona Crossing.
    
    A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued below the Willow Street crossing along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach through January 1.
    
    A HAMMONDS FLYCATCHER continued by the small north shore pond at Bonelli Regional Park through January 3.
    Also in this area and along the north shore were a continuing BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, several SWAMP SPARROWS, a couple of WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and a SUMMER TANAGER.
    
    Another HAMMONDS FLYCATCHER was on the UCLA campus on January 1.
    
    A PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER was along the Playa Vista Riparian Corridor on January 1.
    
    An EASTERN PHOEBE continued at Scherer Park in Long Beach through January 3.
    It has been seen near the wood bridge across from the Atlantic Ave. parking lot.
    
    Another EASTERN PHOEBE continued at Lake Lindero in Agoura Hills through January 5.
    
    A PACIFIC WREN continued at Temescal Gateway Park in Pacific Palisades through January 3 in the southwest corner by the first footbridge.
    
    Five LAPLAND LONGSPURS continued in the east Antelope Valley through January 6.
    They have been in the fields south of 70 th Street East and Avenue F.
    
    A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was a the Rio Hondo Spreading Basins in Pico Rivera on January 6.
    
    A DARK-EYED PINK-SIDED JUNCO continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas in the Sailboat Cove area through January 1.
    
    A DARK-EYED GRAY-HEADED JUNCO continued at King Gillette Ranch through January 2.
    
    About ten WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were scattered over the coastal slope of Los Angeles County.
    
    A continuing SWAMP SPARROW was at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through January 1.
    
    GREEN-TAILED TOWHEES were along the Los Angeles River by the Del Amo crossing in Long Beach on January 1 at at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature
    Trail in Lakewood through January 5.
    
    A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was at the Los Angeles Country Club on January 1.
    
    A SCOTTS ORIOLE continued in Crystalaire in the south Antelope Valley through December 30.
    
    A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through December 30.
    
    Two NASHVILLE WARBLERS were at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on January 2.
    
    A NORTHERN PARULA continued at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park through January 2 in Tipu trees near the south (Vermont) entrance.
    
    A returning CAPE MAY WARBLER was at Loyola Marymount University from January 1-6 in the area outside the Art Gallery.
    
    A PALM WARBLER continued at Avila Park in Long Beach (along the Los Angeles River below Willow Street) through December 30.
    
    The PAINTED REDSTART at Birdcage Park and just south of there along Hackett Ave. in Long Beach continued through January 5.
    
    Another PAINTED REDSTART continued by 1018 Wellesley Ave. near Brentwood through January 1.
    
    At least six SUMMER TANAGERS were reported on the coastal slope this past week.
