The Rufous-tailed Lark Ammomanes phoenicurus is a ground bird found in open stony country and low rocky hills in India. The male's mating song-flight display is diagnostic of the bird. The male flutters high uttering his song which consists of chortly-bubbly notes which are unmistakable once heard. Like most larks, the plumage camouflages the bird exceedingly well against its habitat and it will not fly until almost trampled upon. The almost brick red hindparts are also diagnostic.
